Time got away from me this week, but I wanted to provide a quick update. We have a bye week hell problem this week as six teams go on bye. It is terrible timing for many people because these games are becoming critical with the season winding down.
FAMILY DIVISION
The Coastal Wave (Abbey) pulled off a big victory last week over the Romney Raiders (Joey) to grab a commanding 2-game lead in the standings.
There are still four weeks to go, but the Wave have put themselves in a great position. After that, things get fascinating. The Columbus Cowboys (Ben) and the Farmville Furies (Maddie) join the Raiders at 7-5, locked into playoff spots. But four more teams are only a game back. Seven teams are within a game of each other, and three spots are available.
This is going to be a thrilling race to the finish. And that begins this week with three games matching up teams in this group of seven.
This is a monster week for determining who is a legit contender and who will fade. Awesome!
FIRST DIVISION
The Olney Ospreys (Kirsi) were taken down by the West Virginia Blacklungs (Rob S) last week.
However, despite the loss, the Ospreys remain in control with a 2-game lead on first place.
The Louisiana Lycanthropes (Kiley) had a monster win over the Dakota Dragons (Butch) last week. Yes, Lycanthropes defeating Dragons is a monster win. I guess if you have to explain the pun, it was not that good of a pun. Anyway, the victory tied the Lycanthropes for second place at 7-5. The last place in the playoffs comes down to another outstanding race.
Three teams are tied at 6-6, with three more teams a game back at 5-7. WOW! It is so much fun to see all these playoff races so close. It makes this week’s games so much more important.
GAME OF THE WEEK
This game is the only matchup between those six teams. Can the Blacklungs pull off another big win against the defending Champion Baltimore Bulldogs (Katie)? The Champs are desperate for a win. We will see how the Dogs do when backed into a corner. I expect they will at least try to take a big bite out of the Blacklungs.
DYNASTY DIVISION
The West Virginia Rednecks (Wayne) pulled off another big win last week, and apparently, as Geri said, they are just unstoppable this year. (No jinx intended, or, well, completely intended) The Rednecks have a 2-game lead on the first-round bye with only two games remaining. A win this week will lock down the number-one seed.
The magic number in the dynasty division is always eight wins. Despite their demoralizing defeat to the Rednecks last week, the New Orleans Hurricanes (Jamie) are the only other team to have accumulated eight wins. And then, as always, the playoff bubble gets crazy.
I mean, this will be an exciting two weeks seeing how these standings shake out.
GAME OF THE WEEK
The loser will be officially out. This matchup is always a big one, but adding in the drama of elimination makes this matchup between two of the league’s most consistent top teams is fantastic. This game includes the Champion from three of the last four years.
Good luck everyone, and have fun.
