Sorry about missing last week. Here we go.
Chuck likes to say, “Fantasy Football is stupid.” Yes, yes it is. But it can also be a lot of fun. We are five weeks into the season. The first four weeks are the honeymoon period of every season. And then, we hit week five, and the bye-week gauntlet begins. The injuries mount, and players are out on byes. At times, it can be frustratingly tricky just to enter a lineup. Well, except for Amy, she never stresses about setting her lineup.
But that challenge can also be the fun of finding that free-agent gem who comes in and produces for you so you snag a victory. As the injuries mount, players will be available on the waiver wire that can provide an impact. The trades will continue to fly in the dynasty league as people adjust to their new reality, thanks to injuries and lack of performance. Some moves will go well, and some will blow up dramatically. That’s the fun of it.
Sure, it can be frustrating when everything goes wrong. But, it can also turn quickly, and many teams have gone on to championships after starting slow, both in the NFL and fantasy football. Things change quickly in the NFL, which means things change quickly in fantasy. Dig up a gem and have fun.
Bottom line, just have fun competing and participating in our great family league.
Okay, let’s see what is going on.
FAMILY DIVISION
One interesting note is that former Champion Coastal Wave (Abbey) have made a strong return to the league and are leading the way in total points. Welcome back.
The London Snitches (Amy) maintain their position in 1st place. The Snitches had a big win over the Columbus Cowboys (Ben) in week four to remain undefeated.
But the Woodsboro Corn Snakes (Michael) broke the Snitches run last week.
So the Snitches fall from the ranks of the undefeated but remain in 1st place.
GAME OF THE WEEK
The first-year Lynchburg Lemonades (Ryan) are second in points scored to the Wave but are only 2-3. Second in points after losing Nick Chubb and Aaron Rodgers in week one? Not bad. The 2-3 record, despite being second in points scored, well, fantasy football is stupid. Don’t worry Ryan, sometimes things will break your way as well. It is always better to be lucky than good in fantasy football.
Lynchburg will try to keep scoring points and maybe pick up a win against fellow first-timer Romney Raiders (Joey).
FIRST DIVISION
Well, here we go. The West Virginia Blacklungs (Rob S) are 2nd in points scored, and the Dakota Dragons (Butch) are 3rd. What do they have to show for it? They both sit at 2-3. Tough luck fellas.
The Olney Ospreys (Kirsi) lead the league in points and sit tied atop the standings at 4-1 with the Allegheny Alligators (Cody). You have to like those alliteration names. That is a pretty strong start for the former Family Division Champion Ospreys. Will the Ospreys become the first team to win two different division titles?
GAME OF THE WEEK
To maintain their hold on first place, Olney will have to pull out this big matchup against the 3-2 Oregon Lumberjacks (Jeremy).
DYNASTY DIVISION
You have to love two of the founding franchises sitting atop the standings. The West Virginia Rednecks (Wayne) and the New Orleans Hurricanes (Jamie) are also first and second in points scored. Maybe experience does matter. Plus, it underscores how there are many different approaches to team management. The Rednecks rarely trade and make minimal moves, while Da Canes make many trades and moves. I guess have a plan and stick to it. The Rednecks stick to the development method as their plan. And the Canes adopt the chaos method.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Two years ago, the West Virginia Blacklungs (Rob S) were in the Super Bowl, and then last year, they got relegated.
Last year, the Minnetonka Chippewas (Greg) were in the Super Bowl and have begun this season at 1-4. Will we have a repeat of the gigantic fall from grace?
The Chippewas need to turn things around quickly, and unfortunately, they run right smack into the hottest team in the league. The Rednecks lead the league in scoring and are the last undefeated team on any level.
Good luck everyone. Fantasy Football is stupid but oh so fun, enjoy.
